Is Goldco a good gold IRA company?

Goldco fits if you have at least $25,000 to roll over and want a flat, published fee schedule. With Equity Trust, its account fees are $235 a year after setup. Its minimum is half of Augusta’s. It has been BBB-accredited since 2011 and puts a price match in writing.

It fits less well if you want a published markup or a full list of custodians. Goldco publishes neither. The BBB logged 72 complaints in three years. With under $25,000, Birch Gold Group starts at $5,000. Get the custodian’s name, its fees and the markup in writing.

Fees

Goldco charges flat fees, not a percentage of your account. Its FAQ says that “whether you have $30,000 or $3 million” the fee is the same.

These fees are charged by the custodian and depository, not by Goldco. Goldco’s cost page (last updated February 2025) lists $50 setup, $125 admin and $100 or $150 storage. Equity Trust, one of the custodians Goldco uses, now publishes slightly higher storage rates, so we use the custodian’s current figures:

  • Setup: $50, one time
  • Annual admin: $125
  • Annual storage: $110 non-segregated or $160 segregated

With Equity Trust, that works out to $285 or $335 in year one and $235 or $285 a year after. Over ten years, that’s $2,400 in account fees with non-segregated storage or $2,900 with segregated, before any wire, sale or closing fees (Equity Trust charges $30 per wire, $30 per sale and $250 to close the account).

Two cautions:

  • An older Goldco FAQ (last updated September 2024) says “around $80” for the annual admin fee. Goldco’s newer cost page and Equity Trust’s schedule both say $125, so plan on $125.
  • If Goldco places your account with a different custodian, the fees will differ. Ask for that custodian’s fee schedule in writing.

Account fees aren’t the main cost. The dealer’s markup on the metal usually costs more, and Goldco doesn’t publish it. See how markups compare with account fees and try our calculator.

Minimum investment

Goldco says it “generally” requires at least $25,000 available to roll over. That’s lower than Augusta’s $50,000 but higher than American Hartford Gold, Lear and Priority Gold ($10,000) or Birch Gold Group ($5,000). Goldco also sells metal for cash; it didn’t publish a cash minimum on the pages we checked.

Custodian and storage

Goldco says customers “can choose from among the custodians we work with”, but it doesn’t publish the full list. Its own page on reading your IRA statement uses Equity Trust’s explanation and calls Equity Trust one of those custodians. For storage, Goldco has published a long article on Delaware Depository, but it doesn’t say every Goldco IRA is stored there. By comparison, Augusta, Lear and Priority Gold each name Equity Trust as their custodian.

Before you sign, ask:

  • Which custodian will hold my IRA?
  • Which depository will store my metal, and where?
  • Is my storage commingled or segregated, and what does each cost?

Products

Goldco sells gold and silver for IRAs and for direct purchase. It explains the IRS fineness rule (gold generally .995 fine, with American Eagles exempt) but didn’t list its IRA products on the pages we checked.

Ask whether the coins you’re shown are bullion or “premium” coins. Goldco’s free-silver promotion applies to its premium coins, which usually carry a higher markup than plain bullion.

Buyback and price match

Goldco advertises a buyback program “guaranteed at the highest price” with no fees when you liquidate. It doesn’t publish the conditions on its about page. Ask how the buyback price is set and whether there’s a holding period.

Goldco’s price match says that if you show it a competitor selling the same coin for less, it will match the price or send you a 5-gram silver bar. Goldco says it may change or end this at any time.

Shipping and delivery

Goldco’s terms say it ships 5 to 14 business days after receiving good funds, and up to 45 business days in some cases. Check your statement to make sure your metal arrived.

Promotions

Goldco’s FAQ offers up to 5% back in free silver on $50,000 to $99,999 of its premium coins, and 10% on $100,000 and up. Only qualified orders count, and it can’t be combined with other offers. No end date was published.

Free silver isn’t free if the coins it comes with carry a higher markup. Compare the total metal you’d get against a plain bullion order of the same size.

Ratings and complaints

  • BBB: A+, accredited since December 8, 2011. 72 complaints in three years, 34 closed in the last 12 months.
  • BCA: AAA, 3 complaints, member since December 2011.
  • Trustpilot: 4.4 out of 5 from 1,795 reviews, the lowest Trustpilot score among the companies we rank.

A company with more customers will collect more complaints, so the raw count isn’t the whole story. Still, 72 is far more than Augusta’s 1 or Noble Gold’s 3. Read a sample of recent BBB complaints and Goldco’s replies before you decide.

Summerton v. Goldco Direct LLC (U.S. District Court, Western District of Wisconsin, No. 3:23-cv-00238) was a class action under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act over marketing text messages. Judge William M. Conley signed the final approval order on March 26, 2026. The judgment of April 16, 2026 approved $2,000,000 for the settlement class, $666,666 in attorneys’ fees and costs, and a $7,500 award to the named plaintiff, and dismissed the claims with prejudice. The docket entries we read don’t include a finding that Goldco broke the law.

We found no CFTC, SEC or state regulatory action against Goldco in searches on October 29, 2026. That search wasn’t exhaustive.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Flat account fees: $50 setup, $125 admin, $110 or $160 storage with Equity Trust
  • $25,000 IRA minimum, half of Augusta’s
  • BBB-accredited since 2011, A+; BCA AAA
  • Written price match
  • Advertises no liquidation fees on buybacks

Cons

  • No full list of custodians and depositories
  • No published markup
  • Its fee page is older than the custodian’s current rates, and an old FAQ gives a different admin figure
  • 72 BBB complaints in three years
  • Lowest Trustpilot score in our list (4.4)
  • $2 million TCPA settlement over marketing texts (final approval March 2026)
  • Free-silver offer tied to premium coins

Who Goldco suits

  • People with $25,000 to $50,000 who don’t meet Augusta’s minimum
  • Buyers who want a flat, published fee schedule
  • Buyers who will ask for the custodian name and markup in writing

Look elsewhere if you want one named custodian and depository up front (try Augusta), you want a published markup range (American Hartford Gold), or you have less than $25,000 (Birch Gold Group starts at $5,000).
