Our verdict

Patriot Gold Group has the cleanest public record on our list: zero BBB complaints in three years, zero BCA complaints, and a 5.0 on Trustpilot from 703 reviews. It names six custodians and stores metal in segregated vaults at the Texas Depository. Its “No Fees for Life” offer could make it the cheapest option if you qualify.

The problem is that Patriot doesn’t publish its minimum or what storage costs if you don’t qualify for the offer, and the qualifying amount appears only on one of its advertising landing pages. That’s too much missing information to rank it higher. If you’re interested, ask for the qualifying amount, minimum, fees and markup in writing before you go any further.

The “No Fees for Life” offer

Patriot says qualifying IRAs pay no annual storage or insurance fees for life. Its main offer page doesn’t say what makes an IRA qualify. One of Patriot’s advertising landing pages says the offer applies “With Qualified Accounts of $100K+” and lists no storage, shipping, rollover or setup fees. Its IRA page adds only “(Minimum Account Required)”. Get the threshold and terms in writing.

Its storage page also says there are “no set up fees, deposit or withdrawal fees” at the Texas Depository. It’s not clear whether that also covers the custodian’s charges.

Fees you don’t pay up front can show up elsewhere, for example in a higher price for the metal. Ask Patriot:

  • Is $100,000 still the amount that qualifies for No Fees for Life, and what counts as a “qualified account”?
  • Does it cover the custodian’s setup and annual fees, or only storage and insurance?
  • What will I pay each year if I don’t qualify?
  • What’s the markup on each product you recommend?

Compare the answers with the published schedules on our fees page.

Minimum investment

Patriot doesn’t publish a minimum for its gold IRA. Its IRA page says a minimum account is required for No Fees for Life without giving the amount. Third-party reviews cite different figures, which we haven’t used. Ask Patriot for its minimum in writing.

Custodians and storage

Patriot lists six custodians it works with:

  • The Entrust Group
  • New Direction IRA, Inc.
  • GoldStar Trust
  • Kingdom Trust Company
  • STRATA Trust Company
  • Equity Institutional

Metal is held in segregated storage at the Texas Depository, which Patriot says is insured through Lloyd’s of London.

Products

Gold and silver, per its BBB profile, including IRA-eligible coins and proof coins. Patriot didn’t publish an IRA product list on the pages we checked.

Promotions

Patriot advertises $2,500 in free metals delivered to your home, and a free silver coin when you qualify by phone. Terms aren’t published.

Ratings and complaints

  • BCA: AAA, 0 complaints, member since September 2016.
  • Trustpilot: 5.0 from 703 reviews, the highest score on our list.

Patriot’s BBB accreditation is newer than most rivals’; it dates from 2022.

We found no regulatory actions or lawsuits against Patriot Gold Group. A 2017 California order against “Patriot Gold and Silver Exchange, Inc.” concerns a different company.
